Closing Networks

According to the decision of the Ministry of Communications, second generation (2G) and third generation (3G) networks will be closed until 31/12/2025 in all cellular companies in Israel, 4G/LTE-enabled devices and above will be used as detailed below:

(1) cellular devices that support 4G/LTE technology and above, Which also supports VoLTE technology.
(2) 4G/LTE-enabled routers and above (VoLTE support will be required if calls are made from these devices as well)
(3) NB-IOT and/or LTE-M IOT/M2M devices.

Additionally, The Ministry of Communications has developed a blueprint for closing networks according to the following steps:

first step

From 01/01/2022 – Commercial import of only cellular devices that support 2G and 3G technology will be discontinued.

second step

Starting from 01/01/2023, the network will provide communication only to devices that support one of the following measures:
(a) Devices supporting the techniques mentioned in the above 1-3 sections.
(b) devices that do not support the technologies mentioned in the above 1-3 sections (old devices) – and that were in cellular connection at some point during the fourth quarter of 2022 (1.9.22 to 31.12.22).

third step

From 31/12/2025, or at an earlier date in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Communications, Second-generation (2G) and third-generation (3G) networks will be closed at all telecommunications companies in Israel and network connectivity will be made available only to devices that support the technologies that support the benchmarks mentioned in sections 1-3 above (old devices by the said date will not be able to receive the service).
